Aleph Beisics
The purpose of this course is to teach aleph beis using an immersive method, in order to educate the student as thoroughly and in as short a time as feasible (approximately 5 lessons.)
Outcomes:
Students will be familiar with block and cursive aleph beis letters and vowels
Students will know the sounds of the letters and vowels
Students will be able to use a Hebrew dictionary
Students will have a vocabulary of around 18 words
Program Plan
Step 1: Students are presented with sheets containing aleph beis letters and vowels and the phonetic sound in English.They copy lines of the letters and vowels.Writing lines of letters provides students visual and tactile immersion leading to greater involvement in the learning process and thus absorption of material
Step 2: Students write the names of the letters in Hebrew Using newly learned letters to create words provides practice of letter usage and involves the mind, augmenting the learning
Step 3: Students look up the roots of letter names (where they exist) in the dictionaryLooking up newly learned words in dictionary provides further practice of letter usage and creation of contextual mapping of aleph beis.
Result: in as short a time frame as possible, student receives maximum input of learning material
